  1. Captain Knight

    Captain Knight Level 6: Lakitu

Here's all the stuff we've discussed and agreed on for NES:
    Sidenotes
    • Classic beat 'em up character. Awesome moves, and awesome pause music. Also able to climb, jump, duck, and swim. Can't break blocks with head until you get a power-up.
    • Enemies can't recoil from smash hits because they would just die.
    • Bowser would play like a normal Battletoads boss, like after a hit, he would bounce up, or move backwards. If you don't do anything near Bowser, he hurts you, obviously.
    • When fighting Bowser with Rash, if you have no power-ups, it takes 8 smash hits to kill him.
    • With Mushroom, it takes 6 smash (which is automatic) hits to kill Bowser.
    • With Flower, it takes 5 smash hits to kill Bowser.
    • Enemies will freeze when getting combo'd. Other enemies would turn around after touching the enemy getting combo'd.
    • When in water, it takes this many spikes to kill the following. The first number is for normal Rash, 2nd # = Mushroom, and 3rd # = Flower:
    • Cheep Cheep : 111 | Blooper : 221 | Lakitu: Three22
    Moveset
    • This explains what you can do with enemies, what kinds of attacks you can do, and what it would look like with no power-ups, a mushroom, and a flower.
    • Here is a couple concept GIFs that show Rash punching and kicking.

    • Running and/or walking: [IMG]
    • When jumping, it would be as high as Screw Attack Samus: [IMG]

    • Crouch ("down" key): [IMG]
    • Death and Hurt: [IMG]
    • Tongue, works similar to Link's boomerang. Can be aimed by holding any direction. Grows longer with each power-up. ("Special" key): [IMG]
    • Smash attacks, used for star mode and power-ups: [IMG]
    • For normal and mushroom. Fire Flower only has the end punch ("attack" key): [IMG]

    Trailer Concept
    • We fade in on Mario fighting Bowser on 6-4. Because Bowser throws so many hammers, and you have to dodge a podoboo, Mario backs off. Then this music fades in, and it cuts to a short half-view of Rash on a turbo bike, not exactly showing him, but you know it's the bike and him. Rash speeds through the level and right as he's right above Mario, Rash jumps off his bike, slides just under the hammers, while dodging the podoboo, and does the Kiss my Fist move on Bowser, and 0:18 in the video starts, and Bowser falls into the lava. Then it zooms in on Rash and shows Newcomer | Rash. Then the original Battletoads title music plays and Rash doing all of his moves demonstrating how awesome he is in SMBC. Done!

    Tutorial Concept
    • First Block: Rash is a melee character with plenty of moves and combos for you to explore.
    • Second Block: Press the "attack" button to do a regular punch. Keep pressing it for a punching combo ending with a fist enlarging punch. Hold "down" and "attack" to do an uppercut to send baddies skyward.
    • Third Block: While moving, press "attack" to kick. Double press left or right to dash, and press "attack" while dashing to do a headbutt. Press "attack" in the air to do a spike, sending enemies to straight to the ground.
    • Fourth Block: Press the "special" button to use Rash's tongue to grab items and coins. When Rash gets ready to launch his tongue, aim it with the directional keys.
    • Mushroom: With a mushroom, two of your attacks are upgraded. Now you can do a super uppercut, and can do a huge kick by pressing "attack" while moving.
    • Fire Flower: Your attacks are now more powerful! The punch combo you began with now just starts with the big punch! The little headbutt you started with is now a huge ram!
    • Star: All of your attacks are SMASH hits!

  2. Sergy92

    Sergy92 Level 7: Bloober

Just put the catchy pause theme and I'll be fine!

  3. Captain Knight

    Captain Knight Level 6: Lakitu

It'll probably be in the "Entering Pipe" sequence

  4. Camo Yoshi

Camo Yoshi Level 4: Buzzy Beetle

I'd say they should play just like they do in the original game.

Overworld levels would be the Stage 1-1 theme.
Underground could be Stage 1-2 theme.
    Dunno about Underwater/Castle themes though.

  5. Please

    Please Level 6: Lakitu

Yep, just translate the brawler into a sidescroller. It'd be cool if Goombas were pushed when they were punched instead of just dying.

  6. pokemondream

    pokemondream Level 5: Spiny

    who are the battletoads

  7. Captain Knight

    Captain Knight Level 6: Lakitu

    A little gameplay.

And a little review. Battletoads is hailed as the hardest game ever, mostly for it's unfair enemies and hazards. If you want a REAL review, watch the AVGN's very own video on Battletoads.

  8. pokemondream

    pokemondream Level 5: Spiny

dang they're sick 1000000000x better than sonic

    French rocks likes this.
  9. Please

    Please Level 6: Lakitu

    Come on now.

  10. pokemondream

    pokemondream Level 5: Spiny

also for the mushroom power up the toad could get pole like in the 1st gameplay vid

  11. Captain Knight

    Captain Knight Level 6: Lakitu

Damnit, Title should be "Ideas for the Battletoaders."

Oh well, so Please, what are our ideas for the jet bike, again?

  12. pokemondream

    pokemondream Level 5: Spiny

i thought sonic was the most wanted chareter

  13. Captain Knight

    Captain Knight Level 6: Lakitu

    Ideas for the Underwater Music?

It might be level 6, but I'm not sure.

  14. Sergy92

    Sergy92 Level 7: Bloober

There is a WHOLE LOAD of most wanted characters, mate.

  15. Rockstar_Bob

    Rockstar_Bob Level 4: Buzzy Beetle

Nah, Snake Pit don't really do it for me. Surf City, however.

btw, The 'Toad's names are Rash, Zits, & Pimple. Pimple is the one that gets kidnapped with Princess Angelica. /nerd

  16. Reset

    Reset Level 4: Buzzy Beetle

Why introduce 3 Battletoads if one of them is going to get kidnapped anyway? I mean it works out in the long term but did it make any sense at the time of the release of the first game?

  17. Please

    Please Level 6: Lakitu

So you know who you're fighting for, it sets up story. I also think that when they created the first game they figured they'd make more games in the future.

  18. Reset

    Reset Level 4: Buzzy Beetle

I buy the second part more than the first. You were already saving someone anyway. The way they handled it just reminds me of a multiplayer arcade game getting cut down for the console port, like the first Double Dragon but this game was the first.

  19. Captain Knight

    Captain Knight Level 6: Lakitu

    Idea!

Maybe when you save Peach, Pimples is right behind her!

Am I clever, or not? :D

  20. Rockstar_Bob

    Rockstar_Bob Level 4: Buzzy Beetle

If it's any consolation, Pimple is playable in Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team.
