Fixed Characters Getting Trapped

    In SMBS 2-3, there is an area on Normal difficulty with a visible block containing a power up and a hidden coin block. The idea was that if a Mushroom came out of the visible block, you would have to avoid hitting the hidden coin block or the Mushroom wouldn't be able to fall down to your level. However...

    With the right abilities, SOPHIA III can drive up the wall and into the small gap. If the tank's shots hits the hidden coin block while up there... whoops.

    Should we make this a general thread for all the characters? It's probably possible to get stuck there with others.

    And only minutes after posting this, I found another similar spot you can get stuck with SOPHIA III; this time in SMBS 3-4. There's no other gaps in the ceiling in this castle besides the one this hidden coin block occupied.

    That's the way Special was designed. Just don't go up there!

    You can't do any such thing in Special. Maybe have GLaDOS open a door or something?

    Gee, there sure is a lot of places in SMBS that SOPHIA III can end up trapping itself in. I think this thread will need renaming accordingly.

    If you ever get stuck in those vertical things, and you don't want to restart, you could use the Sophia Wall Phase glitch to try to get out.

    The 3-4 thing won't be fixed with the wall phase though.

    Why not make it so that driving into the bottom of a hidden block while on a wall or ceiling sets it off? I think that would prevent Sophia from getting trapped without having to change any of the level layouts.

    Ryu can also pass through spaces containing hidden blocks using his wall-climb.

    Characters (not just Sophia) get trapped into places where there aren't any hidden blocks above. See examples above in the thread.

    But isn't Sophia (and Ryu, I guess) the only character who can move up through hidden blocks without triggering them? All the examples I see in the thread are of Sophia climbing up through a hidden block, then triggering it from above.
    I can imagine it being possible for Ryu to get stuck like this, but not for any of the examples in the thread so far.
    In this one, Ryu could climb up the wall without triggering the block, but he couldn't enter the passage because it's too narrow, so all he could do after that is climb down.
    In these cases, Ryu would hit the block while jumping before he could grab the wall to climb.

    Oh yeah I hadn't thought through it, sorry.

    This is thereby false.

    Actually, there is a castle level where the hidden block is one tile above.

    Is one block enough space to grab the wall without hitting the block?

    You have to latch onto desperate ledges to survive with Ryu, sometimes, so I'm pretty sure it's possible.

    When he gets trapped inside the block, he can't climb up or down.
