Custom Power-Ups

  1. Zunar

    Zunar Level 5: Spiny

How about having each character have his/her own powerups? Confused? I'll explain.

Say you were playing as Link, and you hit a block that would have a Mushroom come out. Instead, something else pops out, but it does the same thing as a Mushroom. It's just basically altering the sprites, not the function of it. Here's my ideas:

    Mushroom: Life Potion
    Fire Flower: 2nd Potion
    1-Up: Heart Container
    Star: Fairy

    Mushroom: Machine Gun power-up
    Fire Flower: Spread Gun power-up
    1-Up: ???
    Star: ???

    Mushroom/Fire Flower: Whip Upgrade
    1-Up: Healing Item
    Star: Cross

    Mega Man-
    Mushroom: Mega Man's Helmet
    Fire Flower: ???
    1-Up: Energy Tank
Star: (I don't know the name of it, but it's in Mega Man 1 and 10, maybe 9, I don't remember, and it looks similar to a Bombos Medallion if I remember correctly. It's like an Mystery Tank; it refills everything)

    Mushroom: Long Beam power-up
Fire Flower: Wave Beam or Varia Suit power-up
    1-Up: Energy Tank
Star: Missle Tank or Screw Attack power-up?

Mushroom/Fire Flower: Upgrade (appears when you beat a boss)
    1-Up: P Ball
    Star: H Ball

I don't have Ryu up there because I have no idea what to put for him.
  2. Scorpion42

    Scorpion42 Level 6: Lakitu

I don't know if Jay is going to make it possible to have different power-ups for each character simultaneously. I think that if you choose to for example have Mega Man power-ups, those power-ups will appear for all characters. But I like the idea.

    Alternate Simon:
    Mushroom: Double Shot
    Fire Flower: Triple Shot
    1-Up: 1-Up
    Star: Invisibility Potion/Blue Crystal
    liquidsnake44 likes this.

    CHAOS_FANTAZY Level 6: Lakitu

The thing you're thinking of for Mega Man is called a Yashichi.

Also, this is a really cool idea; I'm just wondering how awkward it might look with Sonic's TV boxes or something. Cool idea; it's probably doable considering that bullets and enemies can be changed.
  4. Rey D

Rey D Level 12: Super Mod

Something's gonna be weird... the first power-up is supposed to be a mshroom. If you change the skin to something like a potion, it's gonna be a creepy walking potion! But anyway, I have ideas too (PLUS some of the ones you've already said), I guess. I don't care if my potion or any power up walks away.
Thinking about it, a walking mushroom is pretty weird too, but whatever.

    1st Power Up: Windmill Shuriken
    Fire Power: -
    1 UP: -
    Starman: -

1st Power-up: Iron sword (I don't know its official name)
    Fire Power: Magic Sword
    1 UP: Heart container (Zunar)
    Starman: Fairy (Zunar)

Do you REALLY need me to say the power ups??

1st Power Up: Machine Gun Power Up (Zunar)
Fire Power: Spread Gun Power Up (Zunar)
    1 UP: -
    Starman: -

    Mega Man
1st Power Up: Mega Man's helmet (Zunar) (is there really a helmet sprite in any Mega Man game?)
    Fire Power: -
1 Up: Mega Man's Face (it's a life in Mega Man 2. Is it in the other games?)
    Starman: -

    1st Power Up: Whip upgrade
/ Double Shot (Item Upgrade that allows you to use 2 items in a screen) (Scorpion42 said first)
Fire Power: Whip Upgrade (it doesn't upgrade to Morning Star Whip, but still)
/ Triple Shot (Item Upgrade that allows you to use 3 items in a screen) (Scorpion42 said first)
1 UP: 1 UP (it's letters) (it exists in Castlevania, but it's super rare) (Scorpion42 said first)
/ Cooked Porkchop (or Potroast) = Healing item (Zunar)
Starman: Invincibility Potion (Scorpion42 said first)
    / Rosary = Cross (Zunar)

1st Power Up: Long Beam Power Up (Zunar)
    Fire Power: Wave Beam (Zunar)
/ Varia Suit Power Up (Zunar)
    1 Up: Energy Tank (Zunar)
    Starman: Missile Tank (Zunar)

    1st Power Up: Upgrade (Zunar)
    Fire Power: Upgrade (Zunar)
    1 Up: P Ball (Zunar)
    Starman: J Ball (Zunar)
  5. Sergy92

    Sergy92 Level 7: Bloober

It is in every single Megaman game.
  6. Zunar

    Zunar Level 5: Spiny

Link's second sword is called the White Sword, and no, there isn't a helmet sprite. But, we can just edit one of Mega Man's sprites to get his helmet separate. And it's a H Ball, not a J Ball. It gives you hover energy in the original Blaster Master.
  7. Scorpion42

    Scorpion42 Level 6: Lakitu

We'll just draw some wheels on them. Problem Solved.
  8. Rey D

Rey D Level 12: Super Mod

Thanks. I just happen to have tipped the letter next to it accidentely.

    Or rather goomba legs?
  9. sbq92

    sbq92 Level 9: Spike Top

Actually, there is a helmet sprite. This can be found on MM9 and MM10 sprite sheets:

  10. NanTheDark

    NanTheDark Level 2: Koopa

Bill's Star could be the Barrier Power-Up, and his 1-up could be a sprite that looks like the medals which represent Bill's lives in the Contra game.
  11. Mitewing

    Mitewing Level 9: Spike Top

Maybe Mega Man's fire flower can be a red or orange "E" tank.
  12. powergo

    powergo Level 4: Buzzy Beetle

I believe that power-ups will be skinable to, so there should be skins for them, for example, Samus' musrum could be replaced with what the long beam powerup looked like in the original, and same for wave beem and fire flower.
  13. Faruga

    Faruga Level 12: Super Mod

Not in MM8 or MM&B. In those games, they're Mega Man's helmet, answering Zunar's question.
And sbq's helmet sprite looks too big, but its size has been doubled, so actually, it's perfect.
Yeah, I know those posts are really old, but no-one's posted for two months.
EDIT: The FF power-up could be an orange or blue Weapon Tank (see Mega Man 7, Mega Man 10, Mega Man IV, Mega Man V, or Mega Man ZX).
And as for the weird potion stuff, you could put it on a sled. :D
  14. Mitewing

    Mitewing Level 9: Spike Top

What is the weapon tank? I dont recall it.
  15. Faruga

    Faruga Level 12: Super Mod

I've never played a game that it's in. However, according to the Mega Man Knowledge Database:
Sorry about the weird arrangement. The original page is here. And the Roman numerals are the GB games.
  16. Mitewing

    Mitewing Level 9: Spike Top

So is there a physical difference between the E tank and the weapon tank I only saw the E tank pictured.
  17. Faruga

    Faruga Level 12: Super Mod

  18. Scorpion42

    Scorpion42 Level 6: Lakitu

Would be great if you could make animated powerups. Then you could give it creepy spider legs.
  19. Rey D

Rey D Level 12: Super Mod

Haha. I think that'd make people attack the power-up before touching it. Like "YIIK! CREEPY MONSTER" :D Sounds funny.
  20. Faruga

    Faruga Level 12: Super Mod

I thought of doing it with skins, but then, they can't be animated. Only the still Fire Flower and the bouncy Star have animations.
