How about it indeed. Rather than just discuss (or not discuss :p) the theory of it, how about a list of possible strengths/weaknesses for each enemy?
    • Goomba
    • Koopa
    • Spiny
    • Cheep Cheep
    • Blooper
    • Hammer Bro.
    • Lakitu
    • Piranha Plant
    • Buzzy Beetle
    • Spike Top
    • Bullet Bill
    • Bowser
And...go! (I don't have time to think about it right now.)

Here is my weeknesses/resistances system (Hope you like it):
    Enemy/Weekness/Resist
    Goomba/Everything/No resist
Koopa Troopa/Hard Knuckle or Charge Kick/Metal Blade (they have shells to resist Metal Blade)
Cheep Cheep and Blooper/Flame Blast and Pharaoh Shot(both are fire-element)/Water Shield(they are fishes)
Piranha Plant/Flame Blast and Pharaoh Shot(both are fire-element) or Metal Blade(Wood Man)/no resist
Lakitu/No weekness(this still happens in Megaman games)/No resist
    Spiny/Everything/No resist
    Hammer Bro/Super Arm/No resist
Buzzy beetle, Spike Top and Bullet Bill /Hard Knuckle/ Resist everything except Hard Knuckle
Bowser/ No weekness/ No resist ('cause he is a boss)

Goomba: Weak to everything.. resists nothing
Koopa: Weak to Charge Kick.. resists nothing
Spiny: Weak to Flame Blast.. resists Charge Kick
Cheep Cheep: Weak to Water Shield.. resists nothing
Blooper: Weak to Pharaoh Shot.. resists Water Shield
Hammer Bro.: Weak to Super Arm.. resists nothing
Lakitu: Weak to Super Arm.. resists Pharaoh Shot
Piranha Plant: Weak to Metal Blade.. resists Water Shield
Buzzy Beetle: Weak to Hard Knuckle.. resists everything else
Spike Top: Weak to Hard Knuckle.. resists everything else
Bullet Bill: Weak to Hard Knuckle.. resists everything else
Bowser: The fake Bowsers are weak to whatever weapon the impostor is weak to. Final Bowser is weak to nothing.. resists Flame Blast, Metal Blade, and Hard Knuckle

I've considered a potential problem with this weakness idea. Many of the weakness would be designed probably based on the elements of the weapons. However, what about skinning? Sure, it makes sense to make Bloopers and Cheep Cheeps strong against the Water Shield because they're water-based creatures, but what if most of the skins end up changing the Water Shield to something that isn't water at all, like fire or spikes or lightning or ice or anything else? The skins are designed to be able to replace anything with anything, and yet elemental weaknesses would impose creative limits on the skinning system.

This isn't even "what if". Dr. Wily's "water" shield uses skulls, so we have a real example to work with.

Yeah, I double posted, I wanted to make sure sbq got the alert for being quoted, so he would know someone is continuing an actual conversation instead of being a funnyman.

I think he would have gotten the alert even if you'd just edited your post, but your heart was in the right place, so I forgive you.

    Good call.

I suppose the weaknesses could still work, but it would probably be better if they were to be based on functionality rather than elements. So, for example, Water Shield would be very useful against both swimming and flying Cheep Cheeps, and so despite Cheep Cheeps being water-based creatures, their weakness should be Water Shield because of the practical effectiveness of it.

I don't think so, I think it may be triggered on the quote button, not the edit button. It's not like I double posted to see myself do it or cause I thought it was fun, I have a good reason. :p

I thought it was triggered by posting a comment containing "quote" tags. Does anybody know?
Oh, and I agree that double posts can be justified if you have a good reason.

Well, I'll tell you what. I'll edit in a quote from you after this and you tell me if you got an alert or not.

    Edit:
    U haz alertz?

    No . . . no I don't. I guess you were right.

That's why I somewhat went with weapon function for determining a bit of the weaknesses I came up with.. especially with Water Shield and Cheep Cheeps.

...which I just now notice was mentioned here. Oh well. :)
