Maria - uses animals instead of whip (Though i think she would be a standalone character)
Alucard - Uses sword instead of whip (since he can use simon's items)

Yeah, the international version has some unfortunate downgrades. On the other hand, they redrew a bunch of sprites to look nicer, changed some palettes to be less muddy, improved some bosses' attack patterns, and added a New Game Plus mode in which enemies have new graphics and attack patterns. So really, both versions of the game have something going for them.

If only Grant was a character. He'd basically be powered up Ryu.
Too bad the extra sprites were not added. There's a least a couple more: A view of his back and a secondary hurt sprite.
