    wait wait wait... skinning?
does this mean i can turn a certain character into a other character?(a.k.a turning simon into a custom made touhou sprite or any other character)

I GUESS most people here dunno Touhou, so I may be wrong. But anyway, the way skins will be available is kinda weird, but when you want a certain a skin, I think your custom sprite sheet must be approved by Jay or some people. Something like that.

Speaking of Luigi, I've been adding ideas to his entry in the wiki. I'll be adding more stuff to it with the more research that I do.

Which Touhou would you use for Simon?

    Are there any whip/axe touhouz?

    OHOH, DO REIMU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have her use a shrine maiden paper stick thingy like in the Touhouvania games, and her axe could be a yin-yang.

Lots of interesting theories going on around here, pretty fun reading through it all :)

Anyway, just so you guys know though we won't be using Jay Squared's older swimming sprites that are on the wiki. I made some nice new ones for when Link's swimming does get updated ;)

Some copyright and mature content issues for uploadable skins.

I didn`t see any answer about the possibility to users being able to upload skins.

I think the best would be if there was the number of skins stated by Jay on the beginning of this thread (that anyone can see it, as something like "oficial skins") but also any user would be able too to upload any skin to the character(s), and stage(s) that he wants, but this set would be only visible to the user who updloaded it.

A "individual offline upload" and a "community upload", understand?

In this way, we can just test the skins we made and after this then send it using a specific system so it can be approved the working ones it goes to an online database independent of updates selecionable on the game (this aproval may be something where we can put something like "report abuse" stuff if it has some copyright of mature content problems).

The system of uploading-and-everyone-will-see must be well-thinked, so anyone should not put a dickface Mario. I think this wouldn`t be something cool to children that may play this game. So I was thinking on something as: " oh, you want to put a Dickface Mario or a Naked Samus? Ok, you will just see it on YOUR computer". The "oficial" ones may have to follow some Acceptance Agreement criteria (and can be just "banable" by a report abuse option), so just the good ones made by players should be putted online to choose.

Or the upload may be categorized if it contains mature content, as Deviantart community does. If I want to put Mortal Kombat blood on a skin I made, for example, anyone of any age should see it? Jay may put a SMBC with mature content on NG and a complete one for people that is not underage and nevermind to see mature content in a game.

This "acceptance agreement" should not just have to follow quality, violence and pornography politic, but also copyright stuff as, even if the credit of the author should be showed, the author accepts some of the Creative Commons guidance, where the skin developer will be asked if he wants to :

    • Use a Creative Commons License?
    • Allow commercial uses of your work?
    • Allow modifications of your work?

I think this must be considered. What do you think?

actually my simon was suppose to be the biggest joke of touhou which is also my fav char Cirno whose icicles always miss (inspired by a game where she shoots bullets in simons axes patern but meh your idea is better) and sinds she is a ice fairy i could give her a ice whip thingy

THIS is SPOIL.... Somewhat. Yes, I'm pretty excited by the coming update, that's why I am talking stupidly.

That seems a bit complicated, the reason Jay wanted to have me and him go over each skin submitted is to make sure they work correctly and that they fit the theme of the game so we have a bit more control over the content.

Since putting the skins in is pretty easy once we establish all the base ones it won't be hard to add user created ones, so there shouldn't be too big a problem with skins getting denied. It's mostly up to Jay though but we probably won't need to set up anything huge like that. Also, since we won't be able to make any money off of SMBC to begin with cause of all the copyrighted content we probably won't need to worry about using skins for commercial use or anything.

I'll probably start up a thread once we release the sheets where people will be able to post their sheets and have me go over them to make sure they'll work correctly before submitting them, that will probably be the main issue when submitting them.

It'll mostly be up to whether or not the idea for the skin is interesting though, if it's a cool idea even if the sheet is messed up we'll probably fix it up and add it. ;)

It's pretty hard to respond to everything here, so I'm glad Zach has been replying. It turns out there is a lot of stuff besides skins being added. I think I can safely say it won't be out in May. Sorry. But it will definitely be worth the wait. I wish I could just get it done, but there is so much stuff changing that it takes a long time, especially because I don't want to release a more buggy version than the previous one.

It's unfortunate it won't be out this month, but as has been said many times before, taking your time is far better than rushing it. I'm sure all of us here would much rather wait for solid game with fewer bugs than an incomplete product. :)

    Or something like that...

Not this month?! ...Well, expectations are often not true. I'm a very little bit dispointed. But there are several good points such as a better version AND I won't check the Exploding Rabbit site every day to wait for the update until June. No need to rush. "No need to run, one must walk step by step." or something the same way. I dunno how to translate this proverb.

Hey, Jay, please say to us, even if it won`t happen on this next version, will SMBC have more new "not-just-skins" characterS?
And do you have something against characters that are 8-bit but not from NES plataform on Super Mario Bros Crossover?

One of the new "things" the game may have on the next versions beyond skins could be unique invicibility for each character (even if only in appearance), new guns and directions for shooting characters, option to play with each character`s original game HP system, secret new stages (cool if we have a vertical one! :D), 2 player mode (by turns - as on SMB3 - or battle - as on smash bros/SF2) and easter eggs with jokes and spoilers of what we will find on the>2.0 versions.

It would be crazy if each character has a stage from its game to be playable. Think for example if we could play a Metroid stage with Mario or Bill, huh?

Awsesome if it has something as a secret undone character in development to unlock, a still-useless chaos emerald hidden, or a alternaty boss that may be the other characters bots on the final castle to fight against (and please, stop with that "Princess in another castle".. :p I think each character may have ANOTHER objective in the game, the existing ones should be more individualized).

(sorry if I`m dreaming too much again. :D)

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice that the younger folks want more features, individualism between the characters, secrets, etc., whereas the older folks want to stay true to the original game? Just a thought.

Sometimes it makes me wonder why but you are forgetting what makes SMBC a awesome game. By you saying this would make it like a ugly typical mixed sprite game that newgrounds has.
